"the story" (lyrics) along with tone, and whatever else would undoubtedly be Lou's answer if you asked him what was more important. Plus, pills (mainly speed) was used by most musicians at the time in order to keep up with the grind that is touring, albeit recreational. Drugs amuse me. I find it interesting and amazing that he can even remember lyrics. ButI'm sick of the obtuse individuals as yourself who let such discrepencies cloud the music, something most musicians would frown upon.

limeDinger-- Why comment at all if not inviting a response from others? There's a stark difference between controlling and questioning, disputing. The integration of drugs into music was at times a spiritual output, but in Lou's case, heroin remains an addictive drug; a forboding remnant of his earlier (some say 'urban-life') years which carried through into his career. It's completely unfair to assume that Lou wished for drugs to interfere with the meaning of the song, or its performance.

RaelSugar97, "the music," meaning this particular performance of this song, is--to some degree--informed by and affected by whatever drugs Lou happened to be on. Lou's mood here is removed, reflective, detached, but not sloppy or hazy. The extraordinary sensuousness (:48-52) an amazing moment of this clip. To muse on his frame of mind at the time is completely valid, and to some, interesting. If not to you then "focus" on what you do find more interesting. Why try to control what I comment on?

Excellent piano-playing by John Cale. Lou Reed in great dramatic form for his "Barbra Streisand" song. Beautiful video. thanks for posting it!

Yes Lou Reed was on heorin for a long time. David Bowie tried to get him out of this, even buying for him equipment so that Lou Reed could keep on singing. Berlin is the TOP of Lou Reed, with Rock and roll animals of course. After that, he had to make a break for several years and tried to come back. I don't think he suceeded... But I still love his heroin's musics, such as perfect day from Berlin.
