i allways think they could have used Infernal Dance from "The Firebird Suite" by Igor Stravinsky on this scene, especially at that rising from water beggining, a firebird aka phoenix indeed...

the best scene in the film and one of the best battle scenes of ANY film...aside from featuring some of the most beautifully graphic depictions of stylized violence anywhere, the animations of the evas and their weapons have a weight and inertia to them that is almost tangible...thanks for posting!
